As the world goes back tot he office and “normality” resumes, we take a look at things you can do in order to look busy at work when you have nothing to do.
- Break out into a quiet area

This is a great one, as you can say “I just need some time to get my thoughts together for the big project”. You’ll probably get more kudos for your visual commitment to the cause.
Preferably you’d like a seat with screen facing a wall so people can’t see you are shopping online.
Alternatively, if you don’t have a quiet area, you can Just stick headphones on and have an excel sheet open. Everyone hates figures.
2. Pieces of paper

Due to environmental causes, and that note at the bottom of an email saying “Don’t print it out as its part of our sustainability award”, paper is in short supply in relation to work.
Double down on the paper, print it all out. The more paper on your desk the more visual you are looking at the paper and thinking. They don’t know that you have perfected sleeping with your eyes open and haven’t read anything in the last hour.
3. Chat mates on Instant messenger

This is great for keeping in contact with people you actually like to talk too and the fast typing to get the quick joke in, gives an audible case that you are busy at work through keystrokes.
Download your phone app on your computer and never do a tap at work again.
4. Have a job within a Job

Nobody works a job without a side hussle it seems. Get yourself another Job/hobby and work that at your . Maybe in Printing, as you can then use point 2 and be doing actual work and looking busy both ways.
Alternatively, answer questionnaires for cash.
5. Never be at your desk

People need to find you to give you work.
Get in early, say hello to everyone. Put your jacket on back of the seat and head to the pub for pints. Ideally you will have your phone with your emails, just incase someone is querying your whereabouts. Say you were down on the other floor working on IT.
